Silviu is a Doctoral Researcher at the Institute for European Studies (IES) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) since September 2012. He is the Programme Manager of the PGC in EU Policy Making and heads the Educational Development Unit (EDU). His PhD research focuses on the education – diplomacy nexus, evaluating the European Union’s emerging role as a diplomatic actor in global higher education. Other research interests include the European Neighbourhood Policy with a focus on the Eastern Partnership, digital learning and the future of education. To date he has been involved in a large number of EU funded projects in the field of higher education, including ERASMUS+ and TEMPUS. At the IES he designed and implemented several Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and Jean Monnet Chair programmes.  His expertise lies in higher education capacity-building, digital transformation in academia, and blended learning instructional design. An advocate of active learning, Silviu is since 2017 the IES Faculty Advisor for the EuroSim Model European Union organised by the Transatlantic Consortium for European Union Studies and Simulations (TACEUSS). He co-organises the biennial European Conference on Teaching and Learning Politics, International Relations and European Studies (EuroTLC) and is a Steering Committee member of the ECPR’s Teaching and Learning Politics (TLP) Standing Group. He holds an LL. B and BPhil (University of Bucharest) and a MSc. in European Integration (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). Since 2016, Silviu represents the IES Junior Research Staff in the IES Board.
