PhD Researcher Environment and Sustainable Development


Jana's research as part of the Environment and Sustainable Development cluster will focus on democratic myopia and climate and energy governance in EU institutions. Jana Gheuens graduated from the University of Ghent, Belgium with a Bachelor in Political Science and a MSc in European Studies, focusing on European Union climate policy. She continued her education with a MSc in Global Environmental History at Uppsala University, Sweden. There, she studied the relationship between landscape and identity on island states in the Pacific. For her thesis, she spent two months doing fieldwork in Kiribati in the Central Pacific Ocean. Previously Jana has done a research internship at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, and Health where she focused on disaster risk and water-security in Small Island Developing States. Jana has also interned at the Belgium Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya where she worked on political and multilateral affairs.
