The Politics of Shale Gas

15 Mar 2013 12:00
15 Mar 2013 14:00

The Institute for European Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel kindly invites you to attend the upcoming policy forum on 15 March with:

  • Prof. Dr. Andreas Goldthau, Central European University, Budapest
  • Torsten Wöllert, DG Clima, European Commission
  • Dr. Geert de Cock, Food & Water Europe

Technological developments in the area of shale gas exploitation and the discovery of large resources in the United States and some European countries, amongst others, have led to shifts in energy politics. The extraction of gas from shale is however not uncontroversial. Research points to a number of potential environmental and health implications. For this reason, shale gas is high on the political agenda in the US and Europe.

The speakers at this policy forum will shed light on the debates in the US, EU Member States (in particular Poland and Bulgaria) and at the EU level.
