IES becomes part of ‘We Are Paris’!

The UN Climate Conference in Paris is widely expected to provide new momentum to the worldwide fight against climate change by adopting a new global climate agreement. Wishing to underline the importance of the Paris conference in a broader perspective, the VUB set up We Are Paris and officially launched it at the opening of the academic year on 22 September. The project serves as an umbrella under which several initiatives reside through the active participation of students, employees, alumni, stakeholders and partners. We Are Paris wants to put forward a positive message by focusing on the role of the active citizen: Together we can make a difference!

The IES and its Environment and Sustainable Development cluster have enthusiastically joined 'We Are Paris'. With Sebastian Oberthür as figurehead, the cluster in particular takes responsibility for providing guidance to students that wish to explore the theme Trade, Services and Globalisation. We especially focus on the financial sector and the ‘divestment’ movement from fossil fuels, which has grown over recent years as a way to promote climate protection. The cluster will also contribute in other ways to We Are Paris, including through several events. Check regularly and stay tuned for our announcements!
