Selen Sarisoy Guerin is a postdoctoral researcher at the IES within economics cluster and assistant professor at VUB where she lectures International Trade since November 2009. Selen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations from Bogazici University (Turkey), an MBA degree from University of Maine (USA) and a PhD degree in Economics from University of Dublin, Trinity College (Ireland).
Before joining the IES, Guerin was the Head of Trade Policy Unit at Center for European Policy Studies and a post-doctoral research fellow at LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome and at ECARES, Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
Her research interests are broadly in international economics covering areas such as international trade, international capital flows, EU trade policy and its impact on poverty reduction in developing countries, global imbalances and investment treaties. Selen has published her work in international refereed journals such as The World Economy, Economics Letters and Review of World Economics. As well as academic publications in scientific journals, Selen has published several articles and commentaries on EU trade policy and has recently co-edited a book on EU-Turkey membership negotiations. Selen was also the author of several reports for EU and externally funded projects such as the report on EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement (DG Trade), Economic Integration in the Euro-Mediterranean (DG Trade), Virtual Customs Unions in the Western Balkans (The World Bank), Policies to Attract FDI in Saudi Arabia (Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Saudi Arabia and GTZ), Prospects for EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement (The Quebec Mission to the EU) and EU-GCC Free Trade Agreement (DG EEAS).
Selen is the co-promoter of the PhD researcher Cem Tintin at the IES and several master’s thesis in the EuroMaster program.
