CV
Dominik Tolksdorf joined the IES in November 2011 as a member of the research cluster “EU foreign and security policy”. Since January 2011, he is an associate assistant professor at Vesalius College Brussels. Dominik’s research interests include the EU’s foreign policy system, its pre-accession policies and political developments in the western Balkans and Turkey.
Dominik’s current research is on the functioning of the European External Action Service. In this context, he is preparing a study on the role of the EU Special Representatives in the EU’s post-Lisbon foreign policy system. In 2011, he has also worked as a fellow in the European Stability Initiative’s project “A changing Turkey and critical Europe”, in which he analysed the debate on Turkish politics in Belgium.
Dominik holds a B.A. in Political Science, Contemporary History and American Studies from the University of Bochum and an MSc in European Politics, Economics and Law from the University of Turku (Finland). In February 2011, he defended his PhD dissertation on “The coherence in the EU’s policies towards Bosnia and Herzegovina: The role of interventionist and local ownership approaches in the EU’s strategy-making” (in German) at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Since 2005, Dominik has worked for several European think tanks and research institutes, including the Center for Applied Policy Research (CAP) at the University of Munich where he worked as research fellow between 2006 and 2009.
