CV

Chantal Lavallée is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow (2017-2019), researching “The European Commission in Drone Community: a New Cooperation Area in the Making”. Within two years, she will analyse the way the Commission has exercised its leadership capacity to initiate actions regarding the civil use of drones. These actions include the creation of a single market, a specific regulatory framework as well as a research programme. The research project will also study those actions’ impact on a strategic industry and dual-use technology development.

Chantal Lavallée holds a PhD in Political Science from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). She is an associate researcher with the Jean Monnet Centre Montréal and the French think tank OSINTPOL. She conducted postdoctoral research at the European University Institute (EUI, Florence) and the Institute for Strategic Research (IRSEM, Paris). She was a visiting fellow at the University of Dundee and Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi (Istanbul), and taught seminars and classes at various Canadian and European universities. Her previous research and publications focus on the relations between state and non-state actors in European security and especially on the contribution of the European Commission.
