From October 2010 onwards, Cem Tintin has been working at the Institute for European Studies (IES) as a Doctoral Researcher in Economics within the cluster of economics. His PhD thesis analyzes the interaction between globalization (measured by Foreign Direct Investment and International Trade) and economic growth and sustainable development. Cem Tintin writes his PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Luc Hens, Prof. Leo van Hove and Assist. Prof. Selen Sarisoy Guerin.

Before joining the IES, Cem Tintin completed his undergraduate degree at the Department of Economics, Ege University (Turkey) with honors in 2007, and he studied selected graduated courses at the Department of Economics, Middle East Technical University (Turkey) in 2008. Afterwards, he started the master program in economics at Lund University (Sweden) and gained the MSc degree in Economics with distinction in 2010. Apart from his native language Turkish, Cem is fluent in English and has a basic knowledge of Swedish, German and French.

Primary Interest Area in Economics:
• International Trade: Structural Analysis of Export and Import Markets, Trade Agreements, Foreign Direct Investment (determinants and impacts), the interaction of International Trade with Development Economics, Development Indices, and Cross Country Comparisons.

Other Interest Areas in Economics:
• International Macroeconomics: Real Exchange Rates, Economic Growth and Productivity Measures.
• Innovation Economics: Productivity in Research and Development Activities, National Innovation Systems.
