General Requirements Concerning Admission
Application for selection to attend the Programme may be made by persons who have completed their study of law and have received a law degree which is equivalent to the Belgian "Licentie in de Rechten" (J.D., Licence en Droit). The equivalence of foreign degrees will be decided by the Academic Board of the Program. Students are selected on basis of their academic qualifications as shown by their study results and the recommendations. The size of each promotion is limited to around 40 students.
The language of instruction for the Programme is English (courses, seminars, papers and examinations). Non-native English speakers should provide proof of knowledge of English (e.g. TOEFL-test [min. score 238] or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - CPE (any grade). The Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - CAE (grade A) is also acceptable for the course.
The
tuition fee (including examination fee) for the academic year 2010-2011 is set at 3000 EUR.
The fee includes costs for mimeographed materials, casebooks and
expenses for study trip.
Foreign students must make their own arrangements to be covered by health insurance, valid during their stay in Belgium.
The administration of the LL.M. in International and European Law can and will NOT be able to extend any financial support to a student, arriving at the Programme without having secured the minimum amount for living expenses necessary for the full period of the academic year. A number of internal and external scholarships might however be available to the master students.
IES scholarship
The program itself offers a limited number of scholarships that take the form of a reduced tuition fee (full or partial waiver). Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and demonstrated need. Students have to apply for the tuition waiver when applying for the program.
University scholarship
The Academic Board of the programme expects the University to be able
to award a very limited number of scholarships for candidates from
developing countries, covering tuition and part of the living expenses.
However, candidates must above all explore the possibilities of
obtaining financial assistance in their home countries.
