Programme Governance

PILC Board

The PILC Programme is embedded in existing VUB structures, including in particular the Institute for European Studies and the Law Faculty. It is governed by the PILC Board which consists of all PILC staff, as well as a student representative, and meets at least 4 times a year. The PILC Board takes collective responsibility for initiating policy initiatives and decisions regarding the Programme. It acts as "Selection Board" at the beginning of the academic year and as "Examination Board" at the end of the academic year. Day to day management of the Programme is carried out by a Director assisted by a Co-Director, who are elected from among the PILC teaching staff, and who report to the PILC Board. This governance structure gives the Master Programme a high degree of self governance, albeit under institutionalised external control.

The current PILC Directors:
  • Servaas VAN THIEL, Director
  • Tony JORIS, co-Director
The past PILC Directors:
  • Bart DE SCHUTTER, Director between 1971 and 2003
  • Frans DE PAUW, (deceased), Acting Director between 1978-1982
