This event will take place
on Tuesday, 9 June, 12:00-14:00
at the IES, Pleinlaan 15, 5th floor, 1050 Brussels.
California is in the process of drafting new ‘green chemistry’ regulation. The EU is about to implement its REACH Regulation. Both jurisdictions are at the leading edge of regulating the management of chemical substances for the protection of human health and the environment, and to foster innovation.
Dr Megan Schwarzman and Dr Michael Wilson,
both Research Scientists at the University of California at Berkeley will present the latest developments in California with regard to the green chemistry initiative.
The Californian Environmental Protection Agency is currently preparing rules for the identification of chemicals of concern, their prioritisation, the evaluation of potential alternative substances, and possible regulatory responses to the results of the first three steps.
Dr Ninja Reineke, Senior Policy Officer, WWF European Policy Office
will highlight some elements of the current discussion in the EU related to the REACH implementation process, focusing on identification and prioritisation of substances of very high concern.
The programme will start at 12:00 with a lunch reception, followed by the presentations and a debate with the audience as from 12:30.
