Information Society

The Information Society cluster at the IES carries out research on legal and policy aspects of the information society and knowledge economy. Its vision is to provide high-quality research, education and academic services in two central areas: the EU internal market and public service governance, for media digital services, ICT and electronic communications in a global context.

The Information Society cluster consists of six researchers. Harri Kalimo’s research is on horizontal legal and policy matters relevant to the Digital Single Market. Jamal Shahin contributes toward cluster activity in the field of policy analysis, democracy and political institutions in the Information Society. Ben Van Rompuy focuses on the non-efficiency considerations in competition law enforcement, with the audiovisual sector as a case study. Marie Lamensch deals with VAT related questions of e-commerce in her PhD. Trisha Meyer is preparing her PhD on online content & copyright infringement policies in the EU. Eva Kubrichtova, research assistant in the Information Society cluster, carries out research on participation and engagement with Jamal, and assists the IES team in the organisation of its biennial international conference on the European Union in International Affairs.

The cluster welcomes opportunities to network and collaborate with the academic, policy and business communities, working on projects related to the information society and knowledge economy. To this end, we have visiting researchers who actively participate in our activities: Avinash Dadhich and Rami Nissilä are currently spending research time with our cluster. Our associate researchers Renato Botti, Doris Hildebrandt and Julia Glidden also join us on occasion.
