Negotiating solutions to international environmental problems
The IES environmental cluster organizes discussion meetings to share the knowledge of each member of the cluster in given fields of environmental studies to enhance the quality of research.
The cluster opens these meetings to (VUB) students for the coming year. The meetings will follow the IES environmental cluster meetings' design: a particularly relevant theme for discussion is chosen, next an article or chapter is chosen to constitute the basis of the discussion and is circulated and read prior the seminar. The participants firstly comment on the article of chapter, focusing on its content. The perspective always reflects the multi-disciplinary approach of the cluster: policy, politics, law and economics. The participants also exchange ideas on the difficulties they encounter in their work.
Today's seminar "Negotiating solutions to international environmental problems" is based upon the new book of Ronald B. Mitchell, International Politics and the Environment, chapter 5, with a focus on biodiversity and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
